International Food Festival |

April 21, 2007: Lisa discovered this food fest during the week and with the promise a fresh pig and sausage grilling in the open air, I could not resist. I was more than pleasantly surprised as this small but lively festival showcased foods from all over Europe. Tons of small boothes with food and textiles and a nice overall atmosphere. We sampled some fresh paella and sangria wine from Spain, bought some olives from Sicily, salami from Cuneo, olive bread from Puglia, and the famous Sachertorte from Vienna, which is a chocolate cake, invented by Franz Sacher in 1832 for Klemens Wenzel von Metternich in Vienna, Austria. It is one of the most famous Viennese culinary specialties. Of course, we finished up with some Bratwurst and Pork Leg roasted with beer. Mini-Octoberfest in Torino!! Gotta Love it!

Tennis Anyone? |
| April, 18, 2007: Through the grace of Innocenzo Casanova (Enzo), my deputy, friend, and avid tennis fan... we landed 2 tickets to the Masters Tennis Tour stop in Monte Carlo. Those of you not familiar with Monaco, the small municipality on the coast in southern France, it is a beautiful and dramatic place. The entire city/country is on the mountain side crashing down into the sea. The Monte Carlo CC is situated facing the sea and you get to watch the tennis in front of you and the blue sea behind... very nice indeed. The day was sunshine and tennis and we had the opportunity to watch Nadal on center count, some doubles and even see Federer in warm ups. Enzo's home made panini were perfect and a day watching tennis on the sea beats a work day in Torino every time!! |

Refining the ART of SPA |

April 4 - 9, 2007: Easter Weekend and a wonderful visit from our Swedish friends Jeff and Christel. It has been over a year since our last meeting during the winter olympics and the long weekend started with Lisa's "soon to be famous" homemade pizzas and a lot of catching up. Thursday night we hit my favorite local osteria called L'oca Fola which is quickly becoming one of my all time greats! Perfect meal and 4 happy fat people woddling home. Friday we hit La Thuile for some skiing under Mt. Blanc and the sun was blazing! Jeff got fried and I spent several hours in a lounge chair on the French side, sipping cold beers and sun bathing next too several topless ladies (honestly!) Next stop was Sauze D'Oulx and a fresh pasta and wine at the apartment with some card games to close the day. As we strolled around the village on Saturday, we discovered a new spa and whammo... we decided to take the afternoon to treat ourselves to a "me" day. Now, some of you may have noticed from these updates that we have been hitting the spa more often that usual (3 out of the last 5 weekends to be exact) but to that I say.... jealousy will get you nowhere! A couple more dinners and the weekend finished up perfect and relaxing. Life is tough! |

April showers brings deep powder! |
| March 30 - April 1: I thought it was April Fool's when after the longest snow drought this side of the Sahara desert, the heavens opened up and the snow, it was a'fallin'. March 31 saw about 1 meter of neve fresca (fresh snow) and I was numero 25 on the chair lift and hit untracked powder on my first 5 runs. Now, this may not sound exciting for the non-skiers out there but to anyone that knows the joys of a beautiful powder day... this was heaven! I was thigh high and lovin' it! I skied to exhaustion on Saturday, ate like a king for dinner and rewarded myself on Sunday with a spa day and hour massage. Italy sucks! |
